To get where we were going involved a number of steps…
First: Traveling the red-eye on Aeroflot to from Moscow to Irkutsk… Actually, for me this came second after flying from New York to Moscow. We were not the only ones starting a vacation, judging by the mood of our fellow travelers in the back of the plane. Let’s just say the vodka put everybody to sleep some three hours into the flight.
Then: a chartered bus, going South towards the Mongolian border.
On the way, we passed the southwestern tip of Lake Baikal (one of the most beautiful lakes in the world).
Lunch was fresh Baikal fish.

That first night we camped in the yard of a Siberian farmer
