The hike
To get from the Siberian village to the point where we started rafting took four days of hiking…
During the hike we had horsemen (local Buryat people) accompanying us: the horses were carrying much of the luggage.
Part of the challenge was wading through streams (and truth be told, I didn’t always make it without falling)…
On one occasion we could use a tree-trunk to cross the stream.
Tania enjoying a quiet moment at the side of the stream; the water from the stream tastes magnificent!
The first week it rained quite a bit – so I did with a garbage bag for a hood.
The last bit before the pass was very exhausting…
The highest point of our hike. At this point we are only a few kilometers from Mongolia.
At some points the view was really spectacular!
One of the most impressive sights of all was troops of galloping horses.
A Siberian outhouse (without the house – does that make it an “out”?).
